Le Lot on est sous le charme
Lot is the name of the department, but it is also the name of the river that meanders through it. The Vallée du Lot is breathtakingly beautiful, with its magnificent vineyards that stretch along the banks of the river, west of Cahors. The landscape is characterised by deep valleys and causses (limestone plateaux) and by sloping hills. For those who love wine, hiking and biking, it is a true paradise.
La Tuque is located in the Vallée du Lot & du Vignoble. The people here are proud of their vin noir, a deep red, quality wine with a strong body that is produced on the hills and plains of the Lot valley. As this region is all about wine, do take a tour along the Domaines and Châteaux to get a taste of the great variety in wines. There are some 500 winemakers in the AOC Cahors region, so you won’t have trouble finding one. They will welcome you.
But the Lot has much more to offer. There are medieval villages, castles, bastides, caves and bustling markets. It is a rural area, not (yet) overrun by tourists. If you are looking for peace and quiet, beautiful nature and an authentic French atmosphere, this is the ideal holiday destination.
